Application Process

Follow steps 1 through 6 below to complete your financial aid application requirements. In accepting financial assistance, student must be aware of their responsibilities and the policies which govern the various programs. You must read and comply with all of the following

Step 1 – The Financial Aid Application.

Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application at FAFSA on the Web every year. You will receive an electronic or paper Student Aid Report from the Department of Education. Each school that you listed on your FAFSA will receive an electronic copy for processing.

Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Step 2 – The Missing Information Letter

The Cerro Coso Community College Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will receive your information electronically from the Federal Processing Center and you will receive a missing document/verification request notification via your Cerro Coso Community College assigned Student email account. The email will refer you to the MyBanWeb student Financial Aid account to review outstanding requirements and verification documents needed for further processing of your FAFSA. All students are required to complete a Financial Aid Terms of Agreement and Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements.

  • Check your MyBanWeb for the most up to date status of your Financial Aid. Please allow 3-5 days for updates on receipt of your faxed and mailed documents to reflect on your MyBanWeb account. During peak times it will take longer but we are dedicated to do so as timely as possible.
  • Read the Financial Aid Terms of Agreement and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Requirements.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand any of the forms and documents prior to signing.
  • Return only the requested forms and/or documents and verifications as soon as possible to the Cerro Coso Community College Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

Step 3 – The Verification Process

The Federal Processing Center randomly selects financial aid applications for a process called verification. Please understand that during the verification process, it may result in a request for additional documents or clarification of your original FAFSA information. If the result is a change to your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), a correction will need to be submitted to the Department of Education for further processing by the student and/or parents of Dependent students.

Step 4 – The Award Notification

Once your file is complete, you may view your Award on your MyBanWeb Financial Aid student status. All Awards reflect how much you are eligible for based on full-time enrollment.

Step 5 – Satisfactory Progress

A student that applies for financial aid will be reviewed at least once per academic year to determine if he/she is maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). To meet SAP, a student must achieve a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better and complete 67% of all units attempted prior to attempting a total of 90 cumulative units. In addition, a student must be following their Student Educational Plan (SEP) approved by a Cerro Coso Community College Counselor.

Step 6 – Financial Aid Check Disbursements

Check disbursements are twice a semester, once at the start of semester and during the middle of the term. Visit the Dates and Disbursement page for important dates and information about disbursement schedule.
