Facts About Financial Aid Funding

Below is information to better understand the Financial Aid process and the current challenges that are affecting timelines for students to receive funding:

  • Priority filing for Financial Aid begins in January. If you applied for the 2011-2012 year between January and June 30th, you have been processed, unless an error was made when submitting the FAFSA or you have incomplete paperwork.
  • If you applied after July 1st, you are a "late applicant" and will not be reviewed until late August-early September with an expected payment in late September. You should be prepared to purchase books with personal funds.
  • If you applied after August 1st, you are also a "late applicant" and you will not be reviewed until late October with an expected payment in late November. You should be prepared to purchase books with personal funds.

These timelines assume that no errors were made on the FAFSA and that all necessary paperwork has been submitted in a timely manner. Any errors and/or missing paperwork will extend these timelines.

Why these timelines in awarding funds?

The Financial Aid Office has seen an unexpected increase in the volume of applicants for this year. Of the applications received 70% must be verified which means that all income information must be confirmed with the FAFSA application. It also means more corrections for students who submitted estimated or incorrect incomes.

Will I be dropped from my classes?

No, once classes begin you are not dropped for non-payment. If you submitted a FAFSA and your record has been accepted electronically by the college AND if YOU are eligible for a fee waiver, one will be issued.

How do I check on the status of the fee waiver and financial aid?

Log on to your MyBanWeb account for all college matters including your campus email address. Go to the financial aid link and check the status of your Award Package. You will see that a Board of Governor’s Waiver C (fee waiver) has been issued for California residents only. Please view this site to monitor the status of your record. When funds have been awarded you will see the payment listed under the "Award" status.

The Financial Aid Office is dedicated to packaging students as quickly as possible. Student phone calls to seek the same information that is accessible online will only slow down this process. Please use the "self service" of MyBanWeb to monitor the status of your financial aid.
